Bulletin Board Policy and Procedures

Tilton Library strives to provide as much information to the community as possible.  As a means to achieve this, the Library maintains bulletin boards in the building for the express purpose of displaying notices. Bulletin boards in the Library foyer are provided for non-profit, educational, cultural and intellectual events and services.  Commercial advertising is limited to the business card board located beside the stairway in the foyer.  A separate board, located in the Children’s Library, is maintained for babysitting services.  Municipal notices and materials are displayed on the Community Information shelves or at the circulation desk(s).  The Library maintains the right to accept or deny material.

1.     All items for posting must be delivered to a Tilton Library staff member.

2.     With the exception of business cards, all items must have the date of submittal on the front of the material.

3.     Items will be posted by Tilton Library staff members.

4.     Old items will be periodically removed from the bulletin boards.

Art & Collections Exhibit Policy and Procedures

Purpose:  Exhibits in the adult area of the Library provide a place where local artists, collectors and crafts people can show their work within the limits of the space, with an understanding that the space is used regularly by people of all ages, including young children.  Exhibits should include, if practical, a selection of library materials on the same or related subjects.  Tilton Library staff will select and maintain library materials for accompanying displays.

The Trustees of Tilton Library have adopted this policy to address how exhibits may be displayed in the Library.

The space:  The exhibit area is located within the adult circulation room at Tilton Library.  Exhibits are confined to the south mantel piece and the wall above it, and on top of the book cases in the circulation area.  Other space use granted by permission of the library director.

Who may display works of art:  Applications for use of the above named space to display art or collections may be submitted by individuals, groups, nonprofit organizations and schools in the Deerfield area.  One-person, group, or theme exhibits will be considered.

Period of display:  Exhibits are scheduled for one month. Works should remain on display throughout the exhibit period. If part of the exhibit needs to be removed before the exhibit period ends, another piece should replace it so there are no gaps. Work should go up on the first day of the month and be taken down on the last day of the month. If the library is closed on those days, contact the library to make other arrangements.

Waiver: The Trustees of Tilton Library and Tilton Library staff members are not responsible for the safety, care or loss of any works on display. Because of the nature of staffing and layout of the building, there is a small risk in showing.

Artist/exhibitor responsibility

Installation and removal: The artist/exhibitor is responsible for installing and removing the show at times when the library is open.  (See Period of display above.)

Artists/exhibitors should familiarize themselves with the features and limitations of the space before submitting an application. Paintings, prints, drawings and photographs must be suitably framed and wired. No nails, thumbtacks, adhesives and the like may be used directly on the walls. Artists/exhibitors causing damage by exhibiting works of art will repair the damage or reimburse Tilton Library, as the Trustees of the Library deem necessary.

List of works displayed: The artist/exhibitor must provide a list with the title, size and media of works to be exhibited, along with the artist’s name, address and telephone number to the Library Director.  (Include price of work if applicable.)

Public information: It is the artist’s/exhibitor’s responsibility to publicize the exhibits.  Check current library hours and events when preparing publicity.

Donation:  Tilton Library suggests that exhibiting artists/collectors make a donation to the Library of 10% of any sale of works exhibited. The donation is payable to “Tilton Fund”.  Tilton Library has no involvement in any sale of works.  All sales are private between artist/collector and buyer.
