SUMMARY:SIGN UP: Winter Wildlife Tracking
DESCRIPTION:Inclement weather date 3/11\n  \nMeet at Pocumtuck Range Trail\, Pine Nook Road parking lot (behind Eaglebrook School – see link and map below)\, Deerfield\, MA\nEnjoy a walk in the winter woods on the Pocumtuck Range Trail with Laura Beltran from the Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary. \nAt one time being able to read tracks was vital for survival. Tracking is more than simply finding a trail and following it and prints aren’t always necessary to track an animal. The forest is full of signs that tell us about the wildlife within.  We will discuss how animals spend the winter and learn to read the tracks and signs left by animals that live in our area. \nDress in warm comfortable winter layers with footwear appropriate for walking on a trail in winter. \n  \nLIMITED TO 10 STUDENTS\, PLEASE SIGN UP.\nCALL OR EMAIL TILTONLIBRARY@CWMARS.ORG\n \nhttps://pocumtuck.org/trail/\n  \nFunded by the Friends of Tilton Library.

SUMMARY:Atlas Farm Book Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Tilton Library & Atlas Farm Store are co-hosting a Book Discussion! \nClosing the Food Gap “sets out the dream of a nation without poverty and hunger\, telling stories of people and\ncommunity projects that have made a difference in the lives of the food-insecure.” \nIn Closing the Food Gap\, food activist and journalist Mark Winne poses questions too often overlooked in our current conversations around food: What about those people who are not financially able to make conscientious choices about where and how to get food? And in a time of rising rates of both diabetes and obesity\, what can we do to make healthier foods available for everyone? \nTo address these questions\, Winne tells the story of how America’s food gap has widened since the 1960s\, when domestic poverty was “rediscovered\,” and how communities have responded with a slew of strategies and methods to narrow the gap\, including community gardens\, food banks\, and farmers’ markets. The story\, however\, is not only about hunger in the land of plenty and the organized efforts to reduce it; it is also about doing that work against a backdrop of ever-growing American food affluence and gastronomical expectations. Over the last three decades\, Winne has found a way to connect impoverished communities experiencing these health problems with the benefits of CSAs and farmers’ markets; in Closing the Food Gap\, he explains how he came to his conclusions. \n  \n@ TILTON LIBRARY\n75 NORTH MAIN ST\, SOUTH DEERFIELD \nBooks available at the library.
