SUMMARY:December Vacation STEM Workshops - Cause and Effect
DESCRIPTION:We’ll have stations to visit and a few ongoing projects.  See the cause and effect of water\, grease\, food\, and light on paper.  Some questions we hope to answer-\nWhat happens to muffin wrappers?\nWhat causes paper to fade?\nWhy does paper turn brown?\nWe’ll have experiments that will help us answer these questions.

SUMMARY:Art at Tilton - As If/Field Study - Series by Allen Fowler
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s Statement: I have an affinity for abstract expressionism\, its use of gesture\, the energy and spontaneity\, the color fields and graphics that suggest the landscape.  In equal measure\, I have always been struck by our need to slice\, dice and structure the world around us from our gridded cities to the geometry we impose/compose on farm fields.  The Field Study and As If Series revolve around this relationship – the character of the organic and the equally relentless human desire for structure and design. \nAll pieces are displayed on the second level of the library and are for sale to the public.  A portion of the proceeds benefit Tilton Library. \n  \n

When Catherine’s long-forgotten high school friend dies and leaves Catherine the guardian of her teenage daughter\, that past comes rushing back. SUMMARY:Deerfield Reads! Registration and Books Available February 1
DESCRIPTION:What if everyone in Deerfield read the same book?  Reading great books prompts us to think about ourselves\, our environment and our relationships.  Talking about books with friends\, family and neighbors often adds a richness and depth to the reading experience.  We hope you will read and enjoy “Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash” by former western Mass. resident Edward Humes and \n– talk about it with your friends and neighbors \n– attend the book discussion and related programs listed on this calendar and at Tilton Library \n– meet new people and share ideas \n– read more for pleasure and encourage your children to do so \n“The real secret at the heart of Garbology may well be the potential for a happy ending buried in our landfill.  Waste\, Humes writes\, is the one environmental and economic harm that ordinary working Americans have the power to change – and prosper in the process.” \nAll programs are free and open to the public. \nEvents include:  STEM workshops for kids; Worm Bin Workshop; Lou’s Upcycling Workshop; Mobile Art; Book Art Workshop; Book Discussion\, Eat It Up Food Challenge; Highway 91 Talk.  Watch this calendar for a complete listing of dates and times. \nProgram length: February 16-March 28\, 2016. \nThis project made possible with funds provided by: a grant from the Deerfield Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency; Friends of Tilton Library; Greenfield Cooperative Bank; Greenfield Savings Bank and private donations from library users.

SUMMARY:Mystery Book Discussion - The Poacher's Son by Paul Doiron
DESCRIPTION:Desperate and alone\, game warden Mike Bowditch strikes up an uneasy alliance with a retired warden pilot\, and together the two men journey deep into the Maine wilderness in search of a runaway fugitive–Mike’s father. But the only way for Mike to save his father is to find the real killer–which could mean putting everyone he loves in the line of fire. \n  \nJoin us on the first Monday of the month for a lively discussion of this month’s title and other of life’s mysteries. Copies of the book are usually available at the circulation desk or can be reserved online or by asking at the desk. This discussion also features cheese pizza while it lasts. Free and open to all.
