SUMMARY:Third Thursday Book Discussion - Bound by Antonya Nelson

Reserve your book at the adult circulation desk or online. \nSummary\n\n\n\n\n\n“Catherine and Oliver\, young wife and older entrepreneurial husband\, are negotiating their difference in age and a plethora of well-concealed secrets. When Catherine’s long-forgotten high school friend dies and leaves Catherine the guardian of her teenage daughter\, that past comes rushing back. As Oliver manages his new love\, and Catherine her new charge and darker past\, local news reports turn up the volume on a serial killer who has reappeared after years of quiet” –Publisher description.\n\nAntonya Nelson is the author of eight books of fiction\, including Female Trouble and the novelsTalking in Bed\, Nobody’s Girl\, and Living to Tell. SUMMARY:Deerfield Reads! Registration and Books Available February 1
DESCRIPTION:What if everyone in Deerfield read the same book?  Reading great books prompts us to think about ourselves\, our environment and our relationships.  Talking about books with friends\, family and neighbors often adds a richness and depth to the reading experience.  We hope you will read and enjoy “Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash” by former western Mass. resident Edward Humes and \n– talk about it with your friends and neighbors \n– attend the book discussion and related programs listed on this calendar and at Tilton Library \n– meet new people and share ideas \n– read more for pleasure and encourage your children to do so \n“The real secret at the heart of Garbology may well be the potential for a happy ending buried in our landfill.  Waste\, Humes writes\, is the one environmental and economic harm that ordinary working Americans have the power to change – and prosper in the process.” \nAll programs are free and open to the public. \nEvents include:  STEM workshops for kids; Worm Bin Workshop; Lou’s Upcycling Workshop; Mobile Art; Book Art Workshop; Book Discussion\, Eat It Up Food Challenge; Highway 91 Talk.  Watch this calendar for a complete listing of dates and times. \nProgram length: February 16-March 28\, 2016. \nThis project made possible with funds provided by: a grant from the Deerfield Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency; Friends of Tilton Library; Greenfield Cooperative Bank; Greenfield Savings Bank and private donations from library users.

SUMMARY:STEM Workshops for Kids
DESCRIPTION:This session\, in conjunction with our Deerfield Reads program will focus on re-use and recycle.  We’ll have stations to visit and a few ongoing projects.  Everything will be made of something that already had a use.  Some questions we hope to answer: \nHow can you make a piece of paper big enough to walk through? \nHow can you use empty chip bags for other uses? \nActivities at the sessions will help us answer these questions. \nThis enrichment activity is funded by Frontier Regional Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Program which is funded by the MA Department of Early Education and Care and by Tilton Library.
