SUMMARY:Forest Bathing Retreat: Local Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:LIBRARIES IN THE WOODS SERIES PRESENTS: \nA book talk with local author Hannah Fries \nPeople have been retreating to the woods for quiet\, meditation\, and inspiration for centuries\, and recent research finds that time spent in the forest doesn’t just feel good but is\, in fact\, good for you. Inspired by the Japanese concept of shinrin-yoku\, or forest bathing\, poet Hannah Fries invites readers to bask in the company of trees\, whether in a city park or a rural nature preserve. \nFries will read from her new book Forest Bathing Retreat and discuss her own interdisciplinary approach to the concept of forest bathing–a refreshing mix of literature\, science\, wonder\, and\nthe simple art of paying attention. \nLIBRARIES IN THE WOODS is a community-read program of 10 local libraries\, featuring discussion and related programs on the book\, “Stranger in the Woods: The extraordinary story of the last true hermit” by Michael Finkel. For more details\, go to Libraries in the Woods on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/librariesinthewoods/.

Never carry a weapon after it has been used…So many rules to his sick\, violent games of death. \nBut Lucas Davenport\, the cop who’s out to get him\, isn’t playing by the rules. \nJoin us on the first Thursday of the month for a lively discussion of this month’s title and other of life’s mysteries. Copies of the book are usually available at the circulation desk or can be reserved online or by asking at the desk. This discussion also features pizza while it lasts. Free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Third Thursday Book Discussion - Belleweather by Susanna Kearsley
DESCRIPTION:“The house\, when I first saw it\, seemed intent on guarding what it knew; but we all learned\, by the end of it\, that secrets aren’t such easy things to keep.” \nIt’s late summer\, war is raging\, and families are torn apart by divided loyalties and deadly secrets. In this complex and dangerous time\, a young French Canadian lieutenant is captured and billeted with a Long Island family\, an unwilling and unwelcome guest. As he begins to pitch in with the never-ending household tasks and farm chores\, Jean-Philippe de Sabran finds himself drawn to the daughter of the house. Slowly\, Lydia Wilde comes to lean on Jean-Philippe\, true soldier and gentleman\, until their lives become inextricably intertwined. Legend has it that the forbidden love between Jean-Philippe and Lydia ended tragically\, but centuries later\, the clues they left behind slowly unveil the true story. \nPart history\, part romance\, and all kinds of magic\, Susanna Kearsley’s latest masterpiece will draw you in and never let you go\, even long after you’ve closed the last page.
