SUMMARY:Third Thursday Book Discussion - The Headmaster: Frank L. Boyden\, of Deerfield by John McPhee
DESCRIPTION:In the first chapter of this biography of Frank L. Boyden\, McPhee writes: “By the late nineteen-thirties\, it had become clear that he was one of the greatest headmasters in history\, and for many years he has stood alone as\, in all probability\, the last man of his kind. He is at the near end of a skein of magnanimous despots who – no matter whether they had actually founded the places or not – created enduring schools through their own individual energies\, maintained them under their own absolute rule\, and left them forever imprinted with the own personalities.” \nThird Thursday is an informal group\, open to all\, no sign up necessary. Reserve your book at the adult circulation desk or online.

SUMMARY:Artist's Talk - Deerfield Impressions - A Plein Air Journey
DESCRIPTION:Learning something new is one of the joys of life.  Learning to paint en plein air has been both a joy and an enormous challenge.  Planning\, equipment\, practice routine\, bugs\, working with changing light\, and talking to folks you meet while working.  One year into becoming a plein air painter\, I feel that I’ve barely scratched the surface.  Plein air has given me an entirelyy new perspective on what and how to paint.  I am looking forward to sharing this work-in-progress.  Adrienne Cremins \nThis special program is part of the Friends of Tilton Library annual meeting.  For more information contact Sara Woodbury at tiltonlibrary@cwmars.org

SUMMARY:Art at Tilton
DESCRIPTION:I am pleased to be showing mostly recent oil paintings at the Tilton\nLibrary. Some of you probably know my daughter\, her husband and family\,\nRaloon and Grant\, Maddie and Soren Bialek and Pat Thompson who live\nnearby. I live in Vermont\, and also spend time in NYC and South\nDeerfield. I love drawing and painting and have been doing it since I\nwas six\, never stopped. I have a Bachelor of Fine Art from Cooper\nUnion and studied at the New York Studio School. I have taught art\nfrom kindergarten up thru graduate college level for thirty five years\nmost recently at Johnson State College in Vermont. My gallery is in\nNYC\, Blue Mountain Gallery\, where I will have a show in May\, 2017. You\nmight have seen works I showed with Jane Trigere at The Arts Bank. and\nat the Deerfield Gallery a few years ago. I almost always paint from\nactual life\, that is how I find the most interesting forms\, however I\nalso love other kinds of art and things people make. Art is an idea in\na sensuous form.

SUMMARY:Mystery Book Discussion – The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency
DESCRIPTION:This first novel in Alexander McCall Smith’s widely acclaimed The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series tells the story of the delightfully cunning and enormously engaging Precious Ramotswe\, who is drawn to her profession to help people with problems in their lives. Immediately upon setting up shop in a small storefront in Gaborone\, she is hired to track down a missing husband\, uncover a con man\, and follow a wayward daughter. But the case that tugs at her heart\, and lands her in danger\, is a missing eleven-year-old boy\, who may have been snatched by witchdoctors. \nJoin us on the first Thursday of the month for a lively discussion of this month’s title and other of life’s mysteries. Copies of the book are usually available at the circulation desk or can be reserved online or by asking at the desk. This discussion also features cheese pizza while it lasts. Free and open to all.
