WHY IS THE TILTON FUND FUNDRAISING FOR THE LIBRARY BUILDING?
- We want to give back to the town department that gives the most to our whole community
- We’re doing it for the kids and families who need and want more books, programs, and technology to supplement and improve their lives
- We’re doing it for seniors who will benefit from the additional services and programs the library will provide in a multi-generational environment
- We’re doing it for the teens who will finally have a space just for them to be after school for studying, socializing, and taking part in programs in a safe place.
- We’re doing it for everyone because all are welcome and everyone benefits from a library that will offer so much more.
WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THIS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN?
- Project started 10 years ago, as the Long Term Plans show growing needs of library with need for additional space in 2014 and again in 2019
- A grant application is written for funding from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in 2014
- In 2015 the Tilton Fund forms the Capital Campaign Committee in anticipation of the grant, in order to help the town pay for the project, AND several large pledges are made from community members
- In 2017 the MBLC Grant is awarded for 50% of project cost (we are #15 on waitlist)
- In 2020 the MBLC grant program paused due to COVID and subsequently building materials prices went up.
- The grant was offered to us in 2022
- Town voted to accept the project in 2023
- Fundraising is brought to the forefront now that project is moving forward and 12 events were held that year to bring in additional donations.
- In 2024 so far we’ve secured pledges from all the private schools and Greenfield Savings Bank, and our list of individual donors has increased to 185 households.
- Going forward we still have more to raise to meet our $2M goal and here are our plans
- Applying for large state and federal grants
- Hosting more events
- Making more connections to local businesses and organizations
- Reaching back out to local families
- With the building set to be finished in summer 2025 we have some rivers to cross to make our goal in time. But we see the horizon and will keeping working very hard to get there.
We need your help.
