Libraries in Massachusetts are required by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) to create multi-year strategic plans in order to be eligible for direct grants from the MBLC, or other state agencies, under the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
A strategic plan not only makes our library eligible for funding, but it benefits the library in multiple ways.
A strategic plan gives us a chance to get valuable input about the library from our community.
It helps us identify areas in which the library is already strong, as well as areas in which our services need to be expanded or improved. This plan will help us budget, prioritize activities, and continue to plan for the future.
It also provides a clear sense of purpose for the library staff, trustees, friends, and volunteers.
