In the 1930’s and 40’s America swung to the sounds of the big bands; Duke Ellington and Count Basie. Tunes like “Do Nothin Till You Hear From Me,” “Caravan,” and “Take the A-Train.” And no place was more swingin than the Hey Hey Club in Kansas City. America also loved music from the American Songbook: Paul McCartney’s favorite composer, Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” or Harold Arlen’s “If I Only Had a Brain, “ from the Wiz of Oz.
