Field Trip – Leverett and Amherst Recycling Sheds

Sign up for a tour of the re-use and recycling areas at Leverett and Amhert's transfer stations.  We'll leave Deerfield at 10 a.m. and tour both sites before noon.  For more information about this Deerfield Reads program, contact library director.  Deerfield Reads is made possible through funds provided by a grant from the Deerfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, Friends of Tilton Library and Greenfield Cooperative Bank.

Memorial Hall Tour – Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association

Summer 2017 Tilton Library - Build a Better World - Tour Memorial Hall Museum with Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association (PVMA) director Tim Neumann. PVMA was one of the first historical preservation societies in the country. PVMA will be launching a website this summer - Impressions from a Lost World: The Discovery of Dinosaur Tracks in New England that Changed 19th Century America Tours are offered at 11, 1:30 and 3 and are free for Tilton Library patrons.

Community Hike – Mount Sugarloaf

Celebrate Henry David Thoreau’s 200th Birthday by Communing with Nature. People of all ages are encouraged to join us in the parking lot at the base Mt. Sugarloaf at 8:30 am for a community hike up the mountain. We will split into two groups: one walking up the road and the other hiking up the main trail. We will meet at the top to enjoy light refreshments and discuss the role that nature plays in our lives and the life of Thoreau. This free program is brought to you by Tilton Library and the Sunderland Public Library and is part of the Thoreau Bicentennial Statewide Read.

Silent Hike up Mount Sugarloaf

LIBRARIES IN THE WOODS SERIES PRESENTS In collaboration with the Sunderland Public Library: Join us for a silent hike up beautiful Mount Sugarloaf, in celebration of our Community Read of “Stranger in the Woods.”We will split into two groups, one hiking the main trail and the other walking up the road. At the top of the mountain we will share our experiences hiking in silence, as well as light refreshments.   LIBRARIES IN THE WOODS is a community-read program of 10 local libraries, featuring discussion and related programs on the book, “Stranger in the Woods: The extraordinary story of the last true hermit” by Michael Finkel.
