Forest Bathing Retreat: Local Author Talk

LIBRARIES IN THE WOODS SERIES PRESENTS: A book talk with local author Hannah Fries People have been retreating to the woods for quiet, meditation, and inspiration for centuries, and recent research finds that time spent in the forest doesn’t just feel good but is, in fact, good for you. Inspired by the Japanese concept of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, poet Hannah Fries invites readers to bask in the company of trees, whether in a city park or a rural nature preserve. Fries will read from her new book Forest Bathing Retreat and discuss her own interdisciplinary approach to the concept of forest bathing--a refreshing mix of literature, science, wonder, and the simple art of paying attention. LIBRARIES IN THE WOODS is a community-read program of 10 local libraries, featuring discussion and related programs on the book, “Stranger in the Woods: The extraordinary story of the last true hermit” by Michael Finkel.
