Tilton Library 71 North Main Street, South Deerfield, MA, United States

Presented by Amherst College students. Scientists examine rocks to learn about life in the distant past. Some rocks tell us a bit about what critters may have looked liked, while other rocks give us a sense of what the critters used to do. Some of the first people to notice these special rocks once lived and worked in Deerfield many years ago. One of the earliest discoveries was made by a local teenager. Explore fossils and gems from the Rock, Fossil and Dinosaur Shop.

This tour is a continuation of Jo’s first library tour, which began in 2019, but ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019-2020 library tour included visits to libraries in Bernardston, Colrain, Gill, Erving, Leverett, Leyden, Montague, Northfield, Orange, Royalston, Shutesbury, Warwick, and Wendell. This tour will celebrate the vibrancy of our region’s libraries and the critical role they play in our communities, as gathering places, resources, introductions to literacy, and so much more, as well as the resilience of our librarians and library staff who have worked to support our communities throughout the pandemic.
