VIRTUAL PRESENTATION: Easy Walks with Marjorie Turner Hollman

The Tilton Library is co-hosting the Free virtual program! Are you looking to get outside, but don't know where to start? Looking for an inclusive hike that everyone from small children to people with limited mobility can enjoy? Join Libraries in the Woods - a collaborative group of 20+ Franklin County libraries - on Zoom for this great program! Email the Tilton Library at tiltonlibrary@cwmars.org for the link. The outdoors has been a refuge for many of us throughout the pandemic this year. However, many places we visit are crowded, and some are not well-suited to our abilities. Marjorie has lots of suggestions, experience and ideas that can help you have a more positive experience in the outdoors. She has traveled all over Massachusetts, and will share photos, recommend great places, and share "How to find" strategies and suggestions. Her presentation will also include basics about dressing in layers, what to bring with you, how to carry things safely and more. Marjorie Turner Hollman is a writer who loves the outdoors, and has completed three guides to Easy Walking trails in Massachusetts. She has recently released her latest book, Finding Easy Walks Wherever You Are. With limited mobility, she uses hiking poles when heading outdoors. VIRTUAL TALK: Homeschooling Your Unique Child

The Tilton is co-hosting this FREE Virtual program, sponsored by The Northfield Public Library and Libraries in the Woods. Local educator Susan Scott addresses the contemporary challenge of educating your children at home in a short book that we'll provide to you called It Starts with the Child: Understanding Your Child's Unique Personality. Email dmemlib@gmail.com for a copy of this 17-page book, read it, and bring your questions for a brief online conversation that is focused on identifying your child's unique learning style, and how you can support them through educational practices at home. Sue was a homeschooling educator for 25 years, and has a degree in human development.

VIRTUAL TALK: Birding in Massachusetts and Beyond

The Tilton is co-hosting this FREE Virtual program, sponsored by The Northfield Public Library and Libraries in the Woods. A virtual presentation by John R. Nelson, author of 2019 book Flight Calls: Exploring Massachusetts through Birds. John writes, "In search of birds I've gone further and further afield, first to birdy spots around Massachusetts...next cross-country to the Rio Grande and saguaro deserts, then beyond to whole new families of birds in Belize, Brazil, Botswana, Bhutan, and Borneo....The more time I spend with birds, the more they've become sources of stimulation, not just visual treats or searches rewarded. Modern History of the Taliban & Afghanistan: A Virtual Talk

The Taliban (Re)Takes Power in Afghanistan: How Could This Happen? Summary: How could an extreme militant group like the Taliban, which was defeated so swiftly in the aftermath of 9/11, rise again to retake control of Afghanistan? In this talk, Professor Peter Krause will discuss the modern political history of Afghanistan, from the rise of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the 1990s through the recent end of America’s longest war. He will provide an engaging analysis of U.S. foreign policy decision-making and shifting alliances in a country whose people have experienced over four decades of near continuous conflict. Bio: Peter Krause is an Associate Professor of political science at Boston College and a Research Affiliate with the MIT Security Studies Program. He is the author of Rebel Power: Why National Movements Compete, Fight, and Win (Cornell University Press, 2017), co-editor with Kelly Greenhill of Coercion: The Power to Hurt in International Politics (Oxford University Press, 2018), and co-editor with Ora Szekely of Stories from the Field: A Guide to Navigating Fieldwork in Political Science (Columbia University Press, 2020). His research focuses on Middle East politics, terrorism and political violence, rebels and revolution, and national movements. He is a former Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University, and Uppsala University. Reading About Service Dogs With Service Dogs!

Learn the basics about what a service dog is and how it is different than other dogs.  Ask questions and meet real service dogs! Local student, author, dog trainer, and Girl Scout Catherine "Cat" Bezio will visit Tilton to talk about her experience training service dogs and how services dogs should be approached when they are on the job! Her recently published book will be available to purchase. Jess Mattson, President of J.M. Animal Training and Rescue, https://jmanimaltraining.com/about-us, will be bringing her two service dogs and will be in attendance. This event will take place outside.
